Hopeful Participates in International Seminar between Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense and Italian Civil Protection

On July 18, 2025, Hopeful had the honor of participating in a milestone event in international cooperation on disaster risk and emergency management: the International Seminar on Best Practices in Civil Protection and Defense – Rio Grande do Sul–Italy, held at the CIC BG – Center of Industry, Commerce, and Services of Bento Gonçalves. The event was organized by the Consulate General of Italy in Porto Alegre in partnership with the State Civil Defense Coordination of Rio Grande do Sul, bringing together top representatives from the Italian and European Civil Protection systems.

The Italian delegation, composed of experts with decades of experience in complex emergencies, shared best practices in prevention, response, and post-disaster recovery. Key guests included:

Vittorio Bosi, geologist and coordinator of international missions in volcanic risk areas;

Angela Corina, global authority in early warning systems and hydrogeological risk management;

Luca Rosiello, Senior Director of the Italian National Fire Corps, with expertise in aquatic and urban rescue operations;

Damiano Giordani, environmental and territorial engineer with extensive experience in risk modeling and disaster event management.

During the seminar, Hopeful had the opportunity to share its experiences during the May 2024 floods in southern Brazil, highlighting the role of civil society organizations in disaster education and the promotion of community resilience. The exchange included technical visits, institutional dialogues, and moments of integration between the Italian and Brazilian teams — reinforcing a shared commitment to a modern, science-based, and people-centered civil protection system.

This activity strengthens not only Brazil–Italy cooperation, but also Hopeful’s engagement as a bridge between academia, government institutions, and civil society in emergency settings.
